Coach Steph McKay grew up in San Diego, CA and started playing water polo at age 13. She was a four year Varsity athlete in both swim and water polo, team captain, and set three CIF Division II records her senior year. She went on to play one year at Sonoma State University before returning back to SoCal for school. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, and a culinary degree! Coach Steph has a passion for nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and developing the whole athlete.
Previously, she coached at Del Mar Water Polo Club from 2021-2023 and helped grow their girls water polo program before making the move to Bulverde with her family. She stays active raising three boys, playing Masters water polo, taking care of her chickens and donkeys - and of course - teaching kids about the sport she loves - water polo!
Coach Scott Harris has been deeply involved in water polo for decades, beginning as a collegiate player at Texas State University and later coaching at Judson and Reagan High Schools, where he led multiple teams to district and regional championships. A two-time T.I.S.C.A. All-Star water polo coach, he developed numerous elite athletes, including six Water Polo All-Americans. After retiring in 2008, Harris returned to the sport in 2021 to help build the AAAA Water Polo Club alongside Joe Linehan and Norm Collins. He now coaches 16u and 18u girls, serves as the club's Athlete Safety Officer, referees extensively—including 87 high school games last season—and teaches referee clinics, continuing his lifelong commitment to the growth and integrity of the sport.
Coach Ken played 4 years of high school water polo in Southern California from 2008 to 2012. After a 6 year enlistment in the US Air Force, Ken moved to San Antonio in 2018 and started playing water polo with the San Antonio masters. He currently works as a swim coach and swim instructor, and still actively competes in water polo and swimming competitions. He is also a water polo official.
As a dedicated and passionate coach, I specialize in the development of athletes and the cultivation of a love for the sport of Water Polo. With a fresh perspective and innovative techniques garnered through my experience, I strive to share my knowledge with those entering the sport, as well as the next generation of athletes.
My involvement in Water Polo spans several years, encompassing playing, officiating, and coaching. Throughout my coaching career, I have primarily focused on working with youth and high school teams. I am recognized for my ability to connect with players and form strong, unified teams. My areas of focus while coaching include skill development, strategic play, and the creation of a positive, motivating environment for all athletes.
Reid Rinche and I am currently a sophomore at UTSA majoring in Actuarial Science. I started playing water polo in highschool and made varsity all 4 years becoming the team captain my senior year. I joined club water polo my junior year and have attended 3 sessions of Junior Olympics achieving 3rd place in the Platinum Division in 2023. I am also a high school referee for water polo which helps me see the game from different perspectives.
Cheryl has been in the water since she was five years old, starting as a swimmer and falling in love with Water Polo by the age of 11. She competed throughout high school and continued both swimming and Water Polo at the collegiate level while attending California Baptist University. Today, she plays Masters Water Polo and stay connected to the sport I love. In 2024 she was awarded All American Honors at Masters Nationals. Her goal as a coach is to share that same love and passion for Water Polo with every athlete she teaches, helping them grow both in and out of the pool.
Coach Steve is a Retired Special Operations Marine who played water polo and swam competitively in San Diego, CA throughout his teen years. He played water polo at Miramar College in San Diego. In 2023 he led the Alamo 10u team to a fourth place finish at Junior Olympics, and in 2024 he led the 14u Boys team to a Silver Medal at Junior Olympics.
Coach Steve was selected to be on the DOD Warrior Games and Invictus team as a swimmer and he represented the USA and Marine Corps well; earning several gold and silver medals at the games.
He has a Master's Degree in IT Management and currently works in Cyber Security. He is passionate about coaching water polo because of the life skills it teaches young men and women in and out of the pool.
